Rhinoplasty

Aesthetic surgeries related to the nose, which is the most important part of beauty and aesthetics, are increasing all over the world. Knowing some important details in order to eliminate some of the question marks in your mind and to get the nose shape you want will allow you to pass the pre- and post-operative process more easily.

What is rhinoplasty?

All surgical procedures performed to change the shape of the nose for aesthetic purposes are called Rhinoplasty. Numerous deforming operations can be performed, such as correcting the curvature of the nose, removing the belt part, raising the tip, and narrowing the wings. In the same surgery, it is aimed to obtain a nose that is both beautiful and comfortable to breathe by intervening in structures such as curved cartilage, bone or nasal flesh that prevent you from breathing.

Who can have nose rhinoplasty?

Every healthy individual from the age of 18 can have Rhinoplasty surgery. (Make sure to provide detailed information about your health before the surgery). Since the cartilage, bone and skin structure of the nose changes after an average of 50 years, the result you want and promised to you should be realistic.
The age at which a person is legally and naturally considered an adult is 18, and before this age, I do not recommend any aesthetic surgery on the nose. In order for a person to make a decision about his body, he must have completed both his physical and spiritual development.

Will my nose be the way I want it?

The main purpose of rhinoplasty is to obtain a natural nose that can breathe well and is compatible with the rest of the face. At this point, two important factors come into play. Factors belonging to the patient; Age, gender, skin structure, concomitant disease, substance use (alcohol, cigarette, etc.) Factors belonging to the surgeon; The surgeon who will perform the operation should be experienced in Rhinoplasty and be realistic about the desired result.

The nose shape you want should be harmonious on your face, the forehead, nose and chin transitions should be smooth in profile view, and proportional to the width of the face when viewed from the front. If the requested nose is within these limits, a successful result will be obtained.

Preoperative evaluation

Before the operation, your complaints about your nose and information about the nose you want are taken. Then, both the shape and intranasal examination of your nose are performed.

A shape that the patient likes is created by photoshoping photos taken from different angles. The Photoshop image may not be exactly the same as the nose that will appear after the surgery. Because factors such as the person´s age, gender, bone-cartilage-skin structure or concomitant diseases affect the healing.

Which is the best Rhinoplasty technique?

Along with the number of people who have rhinoplasty, the number of surgeons is also increasing. Thanks to the internet, you see many different technical names, and it´s normal to have questions about which one is better.

In fact, Rhinoplasty is technically divided into 2; Open Rhinoplasty and Closed Rhinoplasty. The main difference between these 2 techniques is that if the incisions in the nose merge in the place we call the columella (in the area between the two holes), it is called Open Rhinoplasty, if not, it is called Closed Rhinoplasty. In fact, the same procedures are performed in both techniques, and surgery is performed with the same shaping. Both techniques have advantages and disadvantages compared to each other, and we cannot say that any of them is the best on its own.

The main reason why you hear the names of different techniques is nothing but the names of the tools used for taking the nose bridge for the bone structure, rasping, cutting the bone.

Piezo Rhinoplasty ?

Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty?

Micro Rhinoplasty?

The nose will be made for the bone structure; Recently, many different tools have been used for operations such as removing the belt, rasping and cutting the bone. The name of each instrument does not mean that the surgery is a different technique, it only indicates the name of the instrument used by the surgeon for that area. Since the area where the surgeon works during the operation is limited, these instruments are used to intervene in the bone structure symmetrically and accurately. The advantage of such instruments is that the bone structure can be seen, allowing the surgeon to cut as desired. The disadvantage is that the bone structure is stripped from the skin in order to see it, creating a kind of additional trauma.

In the classical method, an instrument called an osteotome is used to remove or cut the bone. The advantage is that the integrity of the bone and surrounding tissues is preserved and the operation time is shorter. The disadvantage is that the correct use of this instrument depends on the experience and dexterity of the surgeon. Whether open technique, closed, Piezo or any other instrument, it is only the surgeon´s dexterity and the patient´s own healing process that determines the success of the surgery.

Preoperative preparation

For a successful surgery, all health data of the person must be normal. If you have a chronic disease or are allergic to any drug or substance, please inform. These are very important factors related to the preparation and the interventions to be made in the next stages. If you are a smoker, quitting 1 week before the surgery will both help you overcome the anesthesia more easily and contribute positively to the recovery process. The laboratory test results before the surgery are evaluated by the anesthesiologist, your surgery is performed if there is no obstructive health problem.

Surgery process

Nose plastic surgery takes an average of 2 hours. In severely curved noses or revision rhinoplasty, this period may be longer. Since the operation is performed under general anesthesia, you will not feel any pain. After the operation, cold pads are applied to reduce edema and bruising.

Patients are discharged on the same day or 1 day later. Pain relievers, antibiotic tablets and pomade are prescribed for use after the surgery. Silicone pads inside the nose are removed after 3-4 days. After the thermoplastic hotel on the nose is removed on the 7th day and the skin is cleaned, the nose is covered with plaster again. The plasters will come off by themselves when you shower after 3-4 days. Then you will need to massage certain areas of the nose 4-5 times a day. Massage will help both reduce edema faster and shape. You will have periodic control examinations after the surgery. It is very important to follow the advice given to you in this process to achieve a successful result. Do not use glasses for at least 2 months after the surgery.

Take a break from heavy sports training for 1 month.

Do not smoke. Because cigarette smoke both impairs healing and slows down the reduction of edema in the nose.

Will there be Bruising and Swelling in Rhinoplasty?

The bruising and swelling that will occur after the surgery vary according to the response of the tissue to the trauma. In young patients with fair skin and thin skin, the bruising will be slightly more, but it will decrease rapidly in 4-5 days. The swelling may last a little longer. Especially since the skin structure at the tip of the nose is thicker, swelling lasts longer in this area. Some patients do not have any bruising, while others may have more. However, the aim is to achieve a successful result after shaping, and whether there is a bruise or not is not a success criterion.

When will the shape of the nose become clear?

After rhinoplasty, the full recovery period of the nose may take an average of 6-12 months. While this period is shorter in young women with thin skin, this period can be extended up to 12 months in men, thick skinned, advanced age and revision Rhinoplasty surgeries.

When can I start work after the surgery?

You can return to your work life 7-10 days after the surgery.

In which season should I have a Rhinoplasty?

There is no specific time frame for rhinoplasty surgery. You can have this surgery at any time of the year.

What is Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

Sometimes, corrections can be made to the nose with very small touches and surgery may not be necessary. In cases where there is a slight droop at the tip of the nose, very little arch or hollowness, and very little curvature of the nose, such problems can be eliminated by applying some filling. It is a particularly useful method for correcting the profile image.

Rhinoplasty cost?

The cost of the operation may vary according to the manual labor of the surgeon, the hospital where the operation is performed and the shape of the patient´s nose.

Revision Rhinoplasty

In nose surgery that does not provide the desired result in long periods, a second correction may be required. Revision is required in at least 5-10% of rhinoplasty surgeries around the world. Sometimes a small correction may be required, while sometimes it is necessary to reshape the cartilage bone structure with more complicated procedures.
